Description
Starport Frontier is a spaceport management game. Build landing pads, warehouses and power on a distant world, trade with every ship that touches down, and grow a dusty outpost into an interplanetary gateway.
Ships come to your port to trade and to use your services. You buy their cargo cheap and sell it dear, charge for landing and fuel, and expand so bigger and more profitable traffic will come. But success brings pressure — congestion, power demand and running costs — and ships that wait too long take their business elsewhere. The game is about preparing capacity before the traffic arrives, and choosing which business to grow next.
History
Starport Frontier began as a design wiki for a spaceport tycoon with dozens of systems: workforce, roads, ten research branches, nine kinds of reputation. During design it became clear that more systems meant fewer real decisions, so the scope was cut back to a strict budget of five things a player manages — money, capacity, trade, reputation and opportunities. Everything that survived had to create a choice.
Under the hood the game runs on a deterministic simulation kernel written in C#: every economic system is data-driven, tested on its own and balanced with an automated bot player across hundreds of simulated days before it reaches the Unity front end.
Features
- Build anywhere. Free placement of 25 building types — 8 pad classes, warehouses, tank farms, vaults, power and fusion plants, fuel depots, research labs and Frontier survival plants — where adjacency matters.
- Five ship classes, three pad sizes. From nimble Couriers to 50,000-tonne Bulk Carriers, each needing the right pad.
- A living market. 103 tradable goods over 5 market tiers. Trade with every docked ship against the Galactic Commodity Exchange, where 34 kinds of news event move prices. Trade by hand or set rules.
- Pressure that makes sense. One power balance, daily upkeep, loans and interest, and a single reputation score that decides your share of regional traffic.
- Grow through six port levels, from Frontier Outpost to Grand Starport, with 42 technologies in six branches and five permanent late-game choices.
- Contracts from relief agencies, mining combines and colonial offices: deliveries, storage, convoys and berth slots.
- Real accounts. Profit and loss, cash flow, a credit line against your buildings and a weekly review with bonus directives.
- A guided start. A voiced operations aide talks new players through the first hour.
- Earthlike or Frontier worlds. On the Frontier every crew needs water, oxygen and food — import it, or produce it yourself.
- Day and night. The port lights up at dusk; traffic never stops.
